Journey Into Jewellery
Dharmesh’s connection with the jewellery
industry began at a young age through his family business. His father would
often take him to the showroom, where he observed how customers selected
jewellery, how trust was built and how every purchase carried a personal
emotion.
While the family showroom had already
earned a strong reputation in its local market, Dharmesh believed that it had
the potential to reach a larger audience. To contribute meaningfully to this
growth, he chose to strengthen his practical exposure with formal jewellery
education.
His three-year degree programme at IIGJ
Mumbai became an important turning point. It gave him a broader understanding
of jewellery design, manufacturing, merchandising, product development and
consumer preferences.
The course also helped him understand how
successful jewellery brands operate in a competitive market and how design,
presentation, customer experience and business systems come together in modern
jewellery retail.

Learning Through Industry Exposure
A key learning experience in Dharmesh’s
journey was his internship with Malabar Gold & Diamonds. Working with one
of India’s leading jewellery brands gave him exposure to large-scale operations
and professional systems across different departments.
Through this internship, he observed
merchandising, design selection, manufacturing processes and customer
experience at an organised retail level. This exposure helped him understand
how professional jewellery brands manage scale, quality, consistency and
customer trust.
The experience gave him practical insights
that went beyond classroom learning and strengthened his ability to apply
structured thinking to a real business environment.
Turning Knowledge Into Action
After gaining academic and industry
exposure, Dharmesh began applying his learnings to the family business. Instead
of making sudden changes, he focused on improving small but important areas
that could enhance the overall showroom experience.
He worked on product display, packaging,
showroom presentation, design selection and customer experience. These changes
helped present the showroom with a more professional and branded identity.
Dharmesh also introduced a more organised
approach to business operations through digital systems for billing and
inventory management. This helped improve efficiency and streamline daily
operations.
One of his most important contributions has
been in the area of digital visibility. He independently created and managed
the Instagram presence of the family jewellery business, handling jewellery
photography, videography, reel creation and editing.
Over time, this digital presence helped the
business reach customers beyond its local market. Customers began discovering
the brand through Instagram and visiting the showroom after engaging with its
content online.
For Dharmesh, this shift showed how digital
platforms can help traditional jewellery businesses build visibility, trust and
new customer connections.

Customisation Focus
A key area of Dharmesh’s work is jewellery
customisation. He believes jewellery is deeply personal and that every customer
deserves a design that reflects their individuality.
By focusing on customised jewellery, he has
been able to build stronger customer relationships and offer a more meaningful
buying experience. His approach gives customers the freedom to participate in
the design process and create pieces based on their own preferences.
This focus on customisation reflects his
understanding of modern jewellery retail, where customers are not only looking
for finished products, but also for personalisation, emotional value and trust.

innovative and lightweight designs while continuing to improve the overall
customer experience.

Advice For Young Jewellery Professionals
Dharmesh’s advice to students and young
professionals entering the jewellery industry is to never underestimate the
value of learning.
He believes that even if a person does not
personally perform every task in the industry, understanding design,
manufacturing, polishing, merchandising and customer behaviour creates a
stronger foundation for success.
Knowledge helps young professionals make
better decisions, become better leaders and contribute more meaningfully to the
growth of the business.
